FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
-
What makes the Battlers different from other tipping services?
We are not here to tip short-priced favourites and pretend that is value. The Aussie Punting Battlers specialise in finding horses the market has underrated. Our strike rate usually sits around 7 to 10%, but our average winner price is much higher than most tipping services. When we land, we want it to count. This is about long-term edge, patience and finding real value.
2. What does POT mean, and why is it important?
POT means Profit on Turnover. It is one of the most important numbers in punting because it shows how much profit is made from the amount staked. Strike rate on its own can be misleading. Anyone can find $2 favourites. The question is whether the bets are making money long term.
3. Why do you recommend Win bets over Each-Way?
Each-Way betting feels safer because you collect more often, but our data shows it usually underperforms Win-only betting. At long odds, the place dividend is often too small and it can drag down the overall return. Win-only betting means fewer collects, but when the right roughie lands, you get the full value.
4. Why do you prefer Best Tote SP over Fixed Odds?
Best Tote SP is available to everyone. Fixed odds can disappear quickly, and sharp punters often get limited or restricted. BTSP gives members a fair and simple way to follow the results without needing to jump early or chase a price that is gone in seconds.
5. What is the Battler Rating?
The Battler Rating, or BR, is not about picking the horse most likely to win. It is about measuring the horse against the price on offer. We are looking for value. A horse can be a lower winning chance but still be a strong bet if the market has priced it wrong. Each tip is rated from 1 to 20.
6. What are Best Bets and Best KO?
Best Bets are our strongest value selections.
Best KO means Best Knockout. These are bigger-priced runners that can blow a race wide open.
Both are clearly marked on the tip sheet so members know exactly what they are looking at.
7. Do you ever tip more than one horse in a race?
Yes, but not often. Around 80% of races have one tip only. Sometimes we will play two runners if both represent serious value, such as a $15 chance and a $26 chance. What we will not do is tip three or four short-priced runners in the same race just to chase a collect.
8. Which states do you cover?
Base Package: VIC, NSW and SA.
Special Package: QLD.
Special Package: WA.
Coverage can change depending on the carnival, racing calendar and where we believe the best value is.
9. How do I stake my bets?
We recommend staking with the Battler Rating scale. For example, if a horse is rated BR5 and your unit is $10 per BR, the bet would be $50. This keeps your staking structured and matched to the strength of the selection. Flat staking can still work, but BR staking is designed to better reward the stronger plays.
10.What if there is a run of placings or no winners?
That is part of punting, especially when betting at bigger odds. Our style is built around lower strike rates and higher prices. Runs of outs will happen. So will runs of placings. The key is to stay consistent, trust the process and avoid changing the plan after a quiet week.
11. Do you profit from Group 1 races?
Yes. Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 races and major carnivals are a big focus for the Aussie Punting Battlers. These races often create bigger markets, more opinion and more chances to find value. Many members follow the feature race plays closely because that is where some of our best results have come from.
12.Why do you say to avoid multis?
Because bookmaker margins compound in multis. Every extra leg adds more margin against you. Our edge is in single-leg value bets where the price is wrong. If members want to play exotic bets, we prefer traditional racing options such as Quaddies, Quinellas and Trifectas rather than bookmaker-built multis.
13. Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. No lock-ins and no tricks. You can cancel anytime by emailing support. We want long-term Battlers, not people trapped by subscriptions. That is why we never auto renew. We earn your respect, we do not direct debit it.
14. What is the Battler philosophy in one line?
Patience. Understanding. Consistency.
Backing winners is only half the battle. Staking properly, handling quiet runs and cashing in when the big ones land is the other half.
15. Why do you talk so much about bankroll and units?
Because punting without structure turns into guessing. A bankroll is money set aside for betting only. A unit is a small percentage of that bankroll. This keeps every bet controlled and stops emotions from taking over. The goal is to survive the quiet runs so you are still there when the winners land.
16. Why is patience so important with the Battlers?
Because this is not a high strike rate favourites service. We are not trying to collect every second race. We are trying to find horses the market has missed. That means there will be quiet periods, near misses and frustrating days. Patience is what keeps you in the game long enough to cash in when the price lands.
17. What does “We don’t tip favs” actually mean?
It means we are not interested in tipping the obvious just to look good. The favourite might win, but that does not always mean it was a good bet. We would rather find a $15, $26 or $41 chance that represents value than tip a short one that everyone can see.
18. Are Battler tips guaranteed to win?
No. Horse racing is risky and there are no guarantees. The tips are opinions based on our approach, ratings and market view. Past results do not guarantee future results. Every member is responsible for their own staking, limits and decisions.
19. Why do carnivals matter so much?
Carnivals bring bigger fields, stronger races and more betting opinion. That creates opportunity. The Aussie Punting Battlers have always focused heavily on carnival racing because the markets can miss genuine winning chances at bigger prices. Big races often give us the best chance to find big odds.
20. Is APB just a tipping service?
No. The Aussie Punting Battlers are also a community. The goal is to make racing fun again while giving members a clear, disciplined way to attack the punt. The tips matter, but so does the education, the mindset, the bankroll control and the shared wins along the way.
